Hunger For God

For this year to be a journey on the path of destiny, you must continuously draw strength from God. You cannot afford to do life as usual. Hunger drives your passion. The ultimate pointer that you are ready for all that God has planned for you this year, and for the year to be different from any other year, is your hunger for growth. Hunger is a great trigger and driver that propels us forward. Hunger to see things progress and to see a better version of you is what will push you towards change. Look at some dictionary meanings of hunger:

“A feeling of discomfort or weakness caused by lack of food, coupled with the desire to eat.” “have a strong desire or craving for.”

Hunger is a reminder for you to refuel, refresh, recharge, reenergize and refocus. There are instances when you feel hungry naturally and other times you must induce the hunger because you haven’t eaten for a long time either because you don’t have an appetite or you’re sick, but we know going without food for a prolonged period of time (if we are not fasting) is detrimental to our health. The same also applies to our spiritual lives. You have to consciously do things that satisfy your spiritual hunger and when the hunger does not come naturally, you have to induce it.

One thing we can count on is the fact that God satisfies and fills anyone who is hungry for Him.

Matthew 5:6 “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, For they shall be filled.” NKJV

Psalm 107:9 “For he satisfies the thirsty and fills the hungry with good things.” NLT

Jeremiah 31:25 Amplified Bible, Classic Edition

25 For I will [fully] satisfy the weary soul, and I will replenish every languishing and sorrowful person.

From the scriptures above we see that God promised to fill everyone who is thirsty and hungry for Him.

Spiritual hunger is an invitation for God to invade our lives with His glorious presence. It is a call for God to take us to the next level. God’s plan is not for His children to be stagnant in life or to arrive to a place where they are no longer aiming for more in all areas of life. The plan of God is to exceed our greatest imagination.

Ephesians 3:20 Amplified Bible, Classic Edition

20 Now to Him Who, by (in consequence of) the [action of His] power that is at work within us, is able to [carry out His purpose and] do superabundantly, far over and above all that we [dare] ask or think [infinitely beyond our highest prayers, desires, thoughts, hopes, or dreams]

This year, you must not ignore the Holy Spirit’s subtle nudging. You will be doing yourself a favour by obeying His leading promptly. Is the Lord calling you to consistent prayer time outside of your regular daily prayer time? Is He calling you to seek His face through fasting or is He instructing you to connect to a mentor who will instruct you in the next phase of your life? Maybe He’s calling you to a time of rest and sabbath where He can refill you and speak to you regarding the next stage or the start of His assignment for you.

Would you please take some time out this moment to be alone with God and let Him show you what next you are to do? Can you cry out to God like David did in Psalms 63:1-8?

Psalm 63:1-8 English Standard Version

63 O God, you are my God; earnestly I seek you;

my soul thirsts for you;

my flesh faints for you,

as in a dry and weary land where there is no water.

2 So I have looked upon you in the sanctuary,

beholding your power and glory.

3 Because your steadfast love is better than life,

my lips will praise you.

4 So I will bless you as long as I live;

in your name I will lift up my hands.

5 My soul will be satisfied as with fat and rich food,

and my mouth will praise you with joyful lips,

6 when I remember you upon my bed,

and meditate on you in the watches of the night;

7 for you have been my help,

and in the shadow of your wings I will sing for joy.

8 My soul clings to you;

your right hand upholds me.

I pray that as you do this, you will encounter God afresh in this season in Jesus name!
